Experience
Hi! I'm a current graduate student and lifelong grammar nerd who has over fifteen years of experience in tutoring a wide range of ages and skill levels. I am most qualified to help with reading, writing, literature analysis, and principles of psychology. I have had firsthand success in both studying and tutoring for the AP, SAT, and GRE standardized tests, as well as helping students with the daunting college application process. In pursuing my Masters of Education with a focus in School Counseling at USC, I have cultivated a thorough understanding of principles of learning and motivation, adolescent development, and the education system. I'm passionate about helping every student recognize their own potential, overcome obstacles, and reach their goals. Personal strengths include developing writing and editing skills, understanding and helping students with ADHD, and working with students who may struggle to feel confident in school. I believe in a tutoring approach that is individualized and compassionate: my job is to not only hone skills, but also build confidence along the way. Experience: -Writing Tutor at Reed College - edited and mentored 4 senior theses for departments of English, History, and Psychology; mentored several Humanities 110 (core curriculum course) students over the course of the year in reading and writing; held weekly drop-in hours to assist in paper planning, writing, and editing. -2012 Eddings Grant: received department funds to revise and publish a 100-page thesis on memoirs of mental illness, as well as a comprehensive annotated bibliography. -2010-present: tutor for various high school students in the Portland, Los Angeles, and Ventura County areas, assisting with study skills, writing skills, standardized testing, and the college application/selection/essay process. -Tutor and mentor at Lane Middle School, 2006-2008: taught reading comprehension for ages 10-14; ran writing workshops for ages 12-14 at a local Dallas elementary/middle school. -2005-present: coached horseback riding to students of all ages.
